The Château d'Angerval (76540): An architectural jewel of the eighteenth century in Normandy

the Château d'Angerval

Located in Ancretteville-sur-Mer (76540) in the Seine-Maritime region of Normandy, France, the Château d'Angerval is an 18th century monument, whose architecture is distinguished by the use of stone and brick and the presence of a lantern structure. This private residence, emblematic of the region's historical heritage, is surrounded by a lush, carefully landscaped park.

Since its construction, the castle has had several successive owners. The Gommé family was the initial owner, followed by Mr and Mrs Xavier du Fayet de la Tour. On 6 May 1926, the castle was sold at an auction organised by Maître Retout, notary in Valmont, as reported in the newspapers Excelsior, Le Matin and Le Temps of 12 April 1926. Subsequently, Emile Liez, a hat manufacturer in Paris, became the owner, according to the 1930 directory of châteaux and departments. Since then, the castle has been sold to other owners.

The lantern structure of the Château d'Angerval is a remarkable architectural feature. It is a small turret, often topped by a glazed opening or a set of windows, allowing light to enter the interior. Lantern structures were commonly used during the Renaissance and in Baroque architecture to embellish important buildings such as churches and castles.

Although Angerval Castle is not open to the public, it can be seen from certain vantage points outside, allowing visitors to admire its beauty and historical significance.
