Located in the charming city of Rouen in Normandy, the former Teinturerie Auvray is a historic site of great importance. Built in the eighteenth and nineteenth century by the master dyer Jean-Baptiste-François Auvray, this dyeing factory was brilliantly exploited until around 1825.
The buildings of Teinturerie Auvray are divided into three levels, including washing, mordating, dyeing and drying rooms. The large mansion is a majestic five-storey building, once plastered with red brick. Although time has left traces on the entire Teinturerie Auvray, it was classified as a Historic Monument in 2001.
Over the centuries, the entire Teinturerie Auvray has been reused several times. It has been used as an educational institution, residential buildings and restaurant. Unfortunately, it has also been vandalized several times.
Nowadays, the former Teinturerie Auvray is a jewel of Rouen's industrial heritage. It welcomes travellers passing through the HI Rouen youth hostel, offering an exceptionally unique accommodation setting.
